Ilford Delta Film 35mm B&W ISO 100

Delta is a modern emulsion from Ilford and this is the daylight-rated variant- created with finer grain to provide sharp black and white images with excellent contrast. While this means the 35mm film is slightly less forgiving of wide exposure latitudes, the professional results when you nail the exposure will blow you away!

Ilford was founded in 1879 in the English town of the same name. They are B&W royalty in the photography industry thanks to their 140-year heritage and their support for photographers with chemicals and development as well as film. In the mid-20th Century they produced several well-regarded camera lines (including one given to Princess Elizabeth that was later stolen!) but today they are focused on producing the best films and development processes that they can.

What's not to love!

I'm no expert when it comes to talking about fineness of grain and dynamic ranges, but I know what I like, and I definitely like this film for Street shooting.

It's got a healthy amount of contrast, without being too over the top. I think I'd prefer some of the fine grain of some other 100 ISO films for portrait work (kodak tmax maybe) but there's just something about this film that feels right to me for street shooting.

One of the rare times I got through a whole roll without thinking 'mmmm, that didn't work'. All killer no filler as they say!

Definitely worth the extra pound or two in cost over HP4, if you've got lots of light.

Very sharp

Delta 100 is a sharp modern emulsion. Exposure latitude is reassuringly good. It can be shot at EI 200 but with extra contrast. It doesn’t give that retro look - try Ilford FP4 + instead . If there’s any criticism that would be that it can look quite clinical. I’d never say it looks digital but pretty clean looking.

Perfect for: Portraits, Creative/Abstract, Studio work
Stunning for studio portraits

I love everything about the character of this film. At box speed its fantastic with great clarity, fine grain and the kind of contrast I personally enjoy in context. Pushed two stops and you have deep and rich shadows and the fantastic response to skin tones.
