HP5 35mm

A great choice for the winter months and interiors. Very flexible with a bit more grain than FP4 but not overwhelmingly so. Very tolerant of different lighting conditions, I’d definitely recommend HP5.

First time

This was my first time shooting Ilford HP5 and I was expecting a little bit more from it. I expected it to have a nice contrast. However, this was shot on point and shoot Olympus, so next time I will give it a chance on the Leica SLR.

Versatile black and white film.

At ISO 400, this film is great in essentially any adequate lighting. I've used it in full sun, shade, indoors and at night under artifical light, and gotten excellent results.

It has great contrast, for bold images.

Like a familiar pair of shoes

HP5 is a staple. Shoot it, learn how it behaves, and it’ll be there for you forever.

Cheap film for learning the ropes

I have a bag of these from 2023 which I need to develop so after getting the bug again figured I should start cheaply to get to grips. Unfortunately my camera has developed a light leak which ran accross a number of shots, though I think even some of these work.
The bright Spanish sunshine helped greatly with this, and I really like the contrast and grain. I'm likely to start developing my own B&W film soon, so I can have more scope for experimentation to see how far it can go.
