Ilford was founded in 1879 in the English town of the same name. They are B&W royalty in the photography industry thanks to their 140-year heritage and their support for photographers with chemicals and development as well as film. In the mid-20th Century they produced several well-regarded camera lines (including one given to Princess Elizabeth that was later stolen!) but today they are focused on producing the best films and development processes that they can.

I wasn't sure about this at first; I was worried that a 125ISO film wouldn't cut it in the cold dark Glasgow area. I was wrong. Beautiful contrasts, deep rich blacks and soft light greys. And cheap enough that it's a good film to learn on. I got it in a Christmas mystery box and will definitely get it again.
HP5 is my go to film, so I expected FP4 to be similar only with the finer grain associated with lower speed films, and of course a little less versatile with light conditions. I was wrong! FP4 is soft, light glows in its images, and it’s more contrasty than I expected. It’s not something I’d personally use as a daily film because it has such a unique feel, but it does what it does perfectly. It’s a joy to shoot.

A good beginner
A good beginner film due to it's latitude. Slightly fluffier than Delta 100 though in my opinion.

FP4, so good.
Hadn't used FP4 for quite a while so decided I'd give it a go again. I was not disappointed! I rated it at 200 ISO and developed in Fomadon P, which is a clone of ID11. I got a long range of tones and very low grain; a great all rounder. Will use some more. :-)
