Ilford FP4+ 125 shines when I use it in my 1950's Agfa Isolette I folding camera. No automation, just basic skills required and a light meter. I use a Gossen Trisix selenium meter and nailed this for the #FP4Party held in April 2026 over on Bluesky

Best for sunny days, good all rounder. Has a natural vingette in some pictures. Might be good for lake and river photography. Love it.

On summer days when the sun is bright, the skies are clear and it's too hot to rush about, Ilford FP4 is the perfect film for a lazy afternoon of photography. Shot at box speed or pushed a stop or two, it gives great results.

I really like the 120 negs from this film. Lovely grain and pleasing transition of greys and whites. I used it in my good old Bronica.
I set it at 200 iso and developed in HC110 for 12 mins and it worked out well. I will be stocking up with more FP4s as it offers such good value for money.

A good film for beginners and professionals alike.

A perfect all rounder black and white 120 film. I would say I’m a beginner and I found the results fab!

It does what you expect, good detail, pleasing grain, good latitude. Nothing spectacular but a good all rounder.

Great film to use now there is plenty of light. Excellent resolution and small grain size.

Absolutely wonderful rich, smooth tones with good contrast and fine grain. The shadows are stunning and the highlights glow. It is extremely forgiving and pushes really nicely (sample photos were pushed to 800 in Rodinal). It’s also affordable! One of my absolute favourite films.

A nice film that is something a bit different

Affordable but in no way inferior to other brands. One of my most often used films in both 120 and 35mm format.

This film has exceptional latitude and is readily available. This sample shot was taken on a 6x9cm camera at ISO 100 and developed in Perceptol at 1+3 dilution. As you can see, it doesn't disappoint as a film!

I use vintage medium format folding cameras and FP4+ 125 is perfect for them on sunny days. The tonal range is simply beautiful.

I've been using FP4+ for a very long time now and despite all the other films that have come and gone, I still find myself returning to it. It has a wonderful 'look' for want to a better word - combine it with a decent lens or two and you've got a negative that prints well. I've found it suited to a good range of developers too - HC110 and Pyrocat-HD being my favourites, but I've also used it with Rodinal (et al) D76/ID11, Microphen and XTOL. I found best results rating it at EI 80 - OK it makes handheld more difficult, but I mostly work from a tripod anyway - this being said given some decent weather, it is eminently suitable as a walkabout film. Give it a go - you might well come to love it. By the way, the river shot is Pyrocat and the building is HC 110.

FP4 in a few slightly different forms, has been around for a LONG time, and the reason for that is...it does exactly what you expect it should do.
If you do your bit, FP4 will give you fantastic results every time.
