HARMAN Phoenix 200 35mm Film: Embrace the Unexpected in Every Frame!
Step into the world of analogue creativity with HARMAN Phoenix 200, a revolutionary ISO 200 colour negative film from the folks that run the Ilford and Kentmere film brands. Crafted entirely from emulsion to cassette at the HARMAN technology factory in Mobberley, the Harman Phoenix film marks a significant milestone in the realm of analogue photography.
Features and Benefits:
1. Distinct 'Analogue' Look and Feel: Immerse yourself in the unique charm of true analogue photography with the HARMAN Phoenix 200. The film captures moments with a distinct aesthetic, delivering an authentic look and feel that sets it apart from conventional colour films.
2. High Contrast and Vibrant Colours: Elevate your images with high-contrast visuals and punchy, vibrant colours. The experimental nature of Phoenix 200 results in striking images, making it a perfect choice for those seeking a film that goes beyond the ordinary and embraces the unexpected.
3. Versatile ISO Range with Creative Flexibility: With a DX coded cassette and a box speed of ISO 200, Phoenix offers creative flexibility by allowing you to rate it between ISO 100 and 400. This versatility opens up opportunities for experimentation in various lighting conditions, though optimal performance is achieved in good, consistent light.
Tips for the Best Results:
Ensure proper exposure by metering for mid tones to retain shadow or highlight detail, as over or underexposure may not be Phoenix’s friend.
Embrace the unexpected and relish in the quirks of this experimental film, from uniquely coloured negatives to chance encounters with coating anomalies
In every frame, HARMAN Phoenix 200 invites you to break free from expectations and savour the joy of capturing the unpredictable moments that make film photography a truly delightful experience.

I took a roll to Portugal in September 2024 not having much idea of how the images would turn out, only having seen a few sample images and knowing it had a "warm" charm and were bold in contrast. With this in mind, I was intrigued by how certain scenes would render, shooting loosely and having fun, a part of that being not knowing what I just captured and wouldn't until I'm home.
Once AW had developed them, I began scanning at home and found the results immediately rewarding. Phoenix delivers a strong, baked-in look with unforgiving contrast where shadows suddenly drop off and highlights clipping quite quickly. The promised warmth coming through particularly in lower exposures and producing unique rusty reds giving an immediate look to the frames.
Phoenix definitely suited the casual nature of holiday snaps alongside some rolls of other colour stocks that I know better and rely on more.
I would like to revisit this roll with a better scanner (than my home flatbed) and study them more as well as shoot more in different conditions.
I'm excited to see HARMAN's future with their endeavour into colour and the potential for many stocks of films and the capacity to produce them at scale.

Unique
Very nostalgic with its saturated colours and grain, not your everyday film but I’ll be using it again!
First time trying this film out in 135 having shot in 120 before, and this time it was loaded in an old point and shoot on a trip to Shetland, where the weather is far from predictable. Got the best results during sunset on the ferry over there, but I love the pinkish tones you get in the day to day shooting. Bit pricey for a beginner, and grainy as heck, but fun to play with.

A great first colour film from Harman
Shot this film which I got for free from Harman as part of a photo walk in Edinburgh last year. Has a unique look with saturated colours. A nice experimental film. However quite grainy and expensive for the price for a C41 film.

Aptly named...
Super warm and saturated with enough grain you can chew on it. Very unique film, I don't there's anything like this out there. Kudos to Harman for trying something new.
